Box truck accidents
Box trucks are heavy, tall and hard to stop, and they're often driven by people without a commercial license.

Why they're dangerous
- Large blind spots, especially on the right side and directly behind
- Long stopping distances when loaded
- Tall profile that tips in sharp turns and high winds
- Low-clearance bridge and overpass strikes
Safety rules may apply
Box trucks over a certain weight that are used in business can be "commercial motor vehicles" under safety regulations. That can bring rules about driver qualifications, hours, inspections and maintenance.
| If the box truck was… | Who may be responsible |
|---|---|
| Owned by a business and driven by its employee | The driver and the business |
| Rented by a business for work | The driver and the business that rented it |
| Rented by a person for a personal move | Usually the driver's own policy and any rental coverage they bought |
Evidence to lock down early
Some box trucks have GPS tracking, cameras or electronic logs. Delivery and dispatch records show where the driver was supposed to be. These records can be deleted, so we request that they be preserved right away.
