Commercial insurance, explained
Business vehicles usually carry different insurance than personal cars. Here's what that means for you.

Layers of coverage
- Commercial auto policy covering the vehicle and its drivers
- Umbrella or excess policy that sits on top, for larger claims
- The driver's personal policy, in some situations
- Your own uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM) coverage, if the others aren't enough
Motor carriers and direct action
For some trucking and motor carrier companies, Georgia law can allow a claim directly against the insurance company, along with the carrier. Whether that applies depends on the type of company and how it's registered.
What the company's insurer will do
Commercial insurers often investigate fast and may call you within days. They're working for the company. You don't have to give them a recorded statement.
Before you sign anything: find out every policy that applies. A quick check from one insurer may be far less than the coverage available.
